Frat beach Party, Love Bang!, Zingerman Breakfest and sushis!

Friday we went to a frat' party!! Very cliché I know, but it was lot's of fun!! Matt's friend Ryan invited us to his frat's beach party: authentic sand in all the basement, fluorescent light, palm trees and authentic drinking games  Anna and I were intiated to bier pong (glasses with some beer are arrange in triangles and you have to throw a pingpong ball in one of the glasses, if you make it the other team has to drink the beer) and I won!! (actually more because my partner was really good, but still!!) Saturday, after a long day of work (yes, can't forget the master thesis... 3 more days left!!!), we went to party at a bar - club, the Bling Pig (!) which had a party going on: Love Bang! Lot's fun, great friends, fun music and a memorable last saturday night in Ann Arbor (next wknd we'll be in Traverse City)!!!

sunday we went to Zingerman's Roadhouse for breakfest; the most delicious omelettes, preserves and grapefruit juice I've had in years!!!!!  And then, after some more work, Matt and us made some sushis; delicious! Some deep fried sushis were also tried by Ryan, with some relative success...

And now back to work... J-3... !!!!!!!

Another great wknd... Started friday with a little "apéro happy hour at my advisor's house; he invited the hole lab at his house and it was lots of fun!!

Saturday, Anna, bridgette and I had our hair cut. Took advantage of the good price here to have our hair done before we leave Ann Arbor... And then did some little Michigan shopping and american foods to bring home  We then went to the movies to see Dreamgirls. Really cool and great music

And today, after a great breakfest of our creation: 2 layers toasted frozen french toast with cream cheese in the middle, starwberries and maple syrup on the top... De-li-cious!!!!!, we went the Outlet mall, about 1hr from Ann Arbor. It was great shopping!! We found lots of great things, cheap and nice!!! The only problem will now be to put everything in the suitcases!!!!!!

Washington DC

Greetings from the North Pole !!!!!! It’s FREEZING cold in Ann Arbor; about 8°F in the day (-15°C) goes down to -5°F the night; and we have problems with the heating in the house so that’s really not good news… at least I’m fortunate my room is ok so… just cover up with layers and layers… J

But the otherwise, I just had a great weekend in the capital!!! I took the opportunity in my last weeks in the US to visit Michael, Gretchen and Jack and Hugh in DC. We had a great time and beautiful sunny blue sky all weekend! We had delicious Chinese dinner on Friday night with Beth, Rick and Brandon Doyle, which was really fun to see them again! Saturday I went with Michael and Hugh to the Native American museum, then walked across the Mall to the Archives to see the declaration of Independence! We then had lunch with Gretchen an dJack in the sculpture park. In the afternoon we went to the Spy Museum, which was really cool!!! All a collection of stories, gadgets, materials, posters, etc. about spies, intelligence associations through history. In the evening Gretchen, Michael and I went out for dinner in a really nice, “trendy” – I’m sure there were lots of DC VIP’s J - Mediterranean restaurant. And even better I actually got to meet Naomi for dinner, as she was in DC this weekend for a conference!!!! So that was really great timing!

On Sunday we went out to Mount Vernon – George Washinton’s house. It was very nice land and house, and a beautiful view of the Potomac (?) river!!

And then back to the airport; got back at 8pm in Detroit where Brdigette and Anna picked me up. So we didn’t get to see the Superbowl, but got all the reports coming after J We went out for sushi as a nice end of great weekend dinner!

Now back to work… only little more than 3 weeks!!!

Fabian's B day and Collage concert

So, last friday was Fabian's 25th B day!!!! He invited us all to bowling (about 20 of us!) That was a lot of fun!!! We (Anna,Bridgette and I) had made a chocolate (of course... what else?!?) cake that we brought there; and we ahd mde him a beautiful (of course, from us...!) "Visit Us" map with all are beautiful portraits and cities where most of us will be in the next ... months? years? Anyway, then we went to dance in a club which was also lots of fun.

On saturday we didn't do much, sleep was a must!!! But still took a little walk in the afternoon in the nice winter scenery and whtiness... In the evening we went to the "Collage Concert" of the music school: about 30 performances of around 3min each, from classical to jazz, to rock to theater or musical. It was reallz great!!!!!!!

Sunday, we woke up and went out for breakfest in a typical little breakfest place, I got Raisin brand french toat filled with cream cheese... the best thing ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The afternoon was a quiet work afternoon in a lounge... because we have to work too!! :)

Only 6 weeks left.... waow it goes so fast!!!! Excited and sad at the time...

Swiss guys: enjoy the cold winter and snow at last!!!!!!! :) Here it's around 0 - -10C so fun! But I think my tolerance to the cold as risen being here... :)

Ball, Detroit and sushi!!!

Hello to all English speakers and others ;)

I had some little problems with connecting to my blog but now I’ve figured out a way so here is the news!!!

Again we had a great full wknd! It started Friday with the Snowfall Charity Ball; we got all dressed up it was fun!!! Fun cultural experience, as it was actually a dress up ball but with rap hip-hop music (!!) Kind of weird, but we had fun!!!!

On Saturday we went Bridgette, Anna, Ilja (a new guy from Latvia but studying in France), Florent and me, to Detroit to Motorshow. It really cool, lots of different cars, pretty much different from our Motorshow in Geneva for example: No French constructors nor Fiat, and all models presented were the big cars, SUVs, trucks, etc. !!! But we saw the Smart (Swatch-Mercedes) which will come to the US in 2008. We had to take a picture of Bridgette in it!!! ;) After that we drove through the downtown which was quite empty, actually just seemed sad… And then we went to the Motown museum!!!!! It’s actually two little houses left of the studio of the 60s. It was really cool, we had a little tour guide, and the girl told us all about Gordy (the founder), the singers (Supremes, Jackson 5, Marvin Gaye, etc.), how they worked, etc. Even at the end, in the studio, we had a little chant; the men singing “My Girl” and the women “Stop in the name of love” ;) Really fun!!! We then drove back to Ann Arbor, and in the night we had a “Girls movie night”: White wine, chocolate, chips and ice cream, and cheesy movies J In second, we watch “Save the last dance” which we had all already seen but what a great movie! And then, hearing all that good music, Sarah, Eva, Anna and I went downstairs in the Rec room and danced on the soundtrack!! Lots of fun!

Sunday was our rest day; talking on the phone, computer, eating, hanging out in lounge… In the evening, Matt showed us how to make sushi!!!! And they were really yummy J

And now back to work, during the wknd it got really really cold and we had an ice storm Sunday night, so everything was embedded in ice!!! And yesterday night it snowed so Tuesday morning was beautiful blue sunny sky with everything white and icy!
